Title: Southern Benjamin. Mourning, Play, Revolution
The next biennial world meeting of Walter Benjamin scholars will be held in Rome, 17-20 September 2025, organised by the Associazione Italiana Walter Benjamin (https://associazionewalterbenjamin.it/). This year will mark the centenary of his book on the Trauerspiel. Of major importance was Benjamin’s stay in Capri which also played into his Marxist turn, thanks to his acquaintance with Asja Lacis. Therefore, the next IWBS conference – while covering all aspects of Benjamin’s thought – will furthermore explicilyt thematise the presence of the Mediterranean south (and more generally of the many philosophical ‘souths’) in Benjamin’s thought and constellations.
In the coming weeks, the structure and the themes of the panels will be announced, as usual, with the corresponding timetables for the CfPs.
